You have to make the intuitive leap. …Once you’ve made the intuitive leap you have to justify it by filling in the intermediate steps. — Stephen Hawking

LeapGap is about the spaces between science and design, reason and creativity, empiricism and reality, and the drive that pushes us to cross those gaps. Most importantly, it’s about the methods we use to ensure that our leaps are justified, both a priori and post hoc.

Engineering psychology is an interesting beast. It has the techniques to answer almost any question, and a formidable library of knowledge about many important ones.   But as with all sciences, the costs for obtaining that knowledge skyrocket as you begin to cross into new territory.

Real world systems engineering is about understanding these trade-offs, and about ensuring that we leave behind a greater understanding of the problems so that those who follow us can leap further.
